Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of support offered under the NDIS. It's designed to accommodate participants, helping them live as independently as possible in the comfort of their own homes, regardless of ability or disability.

With SIL you can get support with daily tasks, personal care, cooking meals, laundry, budgeting and much more. You can also get access to specialist equipment and services that can help you live independently.

SIL is different from Short-Term Supported Accommodation (STA), which is temporary or transitional housing designed to give you a place to stay while you work on your independence. With SIL, you can stay in your own home, by yourself or with others, while still getting specialist support.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

SDA or Specialist Disability Accommodation is a range of housing options for people with high and complex support needs. SDA houses are typically specially designed to meet the needs of those with high care requirements. They can feature things such as wheelchair accessibility, hoists and dedicated carer accommodation, among other things.

Short Term Accommodation (STA)

Short-term accommodation offers support and care in an environment away from home. It's designed to help participants rest and rejuvenate, then return to daily life better than ever.

It includes things like respite care, support with day-to-day tasks, development of life skills and more. Many short term accommodation facilities also offer things like group activities, classes, recreational activities and more.

Most of the time short term accommodation facilities will provide support for anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on your needs. Some will allow you to stay longer under specific circumstances.
